A simple weekend project, replacing a pool liner requires only basic tools, and a small pump to drain the pool. This could be the most important step in the process of replacing a pool liner — however, since most aboveground pools have a flat bottom, measuring is much simpler than for inground pools. For round pools, measure the diameter across the pool , from wall to wall. Be sure to measure from the wall, not from the edge of the horizontal top rail. Oval pools will need wall to wall measurements for the width and the length. For the length measurement, be sure that you are measuring from the exact apex of the curve, to obtain the longest length. Likewise, when measuring the width, measure straight across the pool, be sure that your tape is at right angles to the walls, and not running askew. Wall height or pool depth , is the next measure to take. Use a hard measuring tape and measure from the flat floor not any pool cove , to the top of the pool wall overlap or Uni-Bead liners , or to the top of the bead receiver beaded liners.

Dan Dougher Fortunately for all of us, above ground swimming pools now mostly come with decent equipment at least. Many years back, above grounds only came with really crappy canister sand filters and undersized pumps. They came with them to keep the cost down and who cared anyway.

Hello and welcome above ground pool owners to the (sometimes) not-so-wonderful world of above ground pool replacement parts. I do not want to sound like a Debbie Downer but it can be hard to ID and track down parts for your beloved above ground pool.

I have an above ground Hayward pool, approximately 30 yrs old, the skimmer basket and door flap are broke. I cant find one. All the new skimmers are square, the old one is square with an oval at the bottom. The new baskets are all round, the old one is flat on one end then is oval shaped. I cant find one that will work. It sounds like you have a Doughboy brand skimmer.

I would find a doughboy dealer near you and see if it matches. It sounds like it should. It is also possible it is a Lomart, they are very similar. A Doughboy dealer should also be able to get a Lomart skimmer if you need one. The only other possibility I know would be an older Muskin skimmer, but it sounds more like a Doughboy or Lomart.

You will first need to locate all the parts that were put away when you closed your swimming pool. In order to connect the skimmer to the pump you will need to take one of the pool hose and put a hose clamp on each end. You will need to take one end of your hose and connect it to the bottom of the skimmer that is on the pool wall. After you have connected both ends you will want to tighten the hose clamps thoroughly. Connecting the pool return: You will now want to get another pool hose just like the one that you used to hook up the pool pump to the skimmer and also put hose clamps on each end of this pool hose. Many above ground pools have in line pool chlorine feeders like the one pictured above.
