Initially, I was rather critical of the new units, but I feel a bit better about them now. I still think the tempest is pretty boring, though I will admit it has its uses, and I do agree that Terrans kind of got the short end of the stick. Widow mines are cool, but hellbats are just a really weird and confusing firebat rehash.
In the game, you operate and manage a tower defense theme park, where you need to construct towers, build up your park, attract spectators, and raise admission rates. Each night you must entertain your visitors with explosive tower defense shows and score bloody kills to impress the audience and attract new visitors. Tower Defense Tycoon is a completely solo project, and it has been my only focus in the Starcraft map editor since the beta began.

So I’d call my skill level average. There was no real opportunity to train up, as no training mode, just ranked matches, and I didn’t have my mains- so I picked Talim Talim herself is pretty fun.
She’s good at keeping pressure on, though not as good as Taki. The matchmaking side of it needed some work, but it worked a lot better on Sunday, so I think we’re ok on that end. Waits will be much more tolerable on PC. Loading times were so much better than Tekken but this will be less of an issue on PC as well Other characters: Nightmare was kinda unfun to play against, because he had a lot of really strong know this gimmick or lose a lot of life moves , and could counteract a lot of day 1 strategies.
My guess is he wouldn’t be as strong when folks understand their characters more, but he’s still a bit too good. I didn’t face any Ivy for some reason, but she was complained about as well.
Review: SC2: Heart of the Swarm: Multiplayer
Two new brushes have been added to the Terrain Module: Preplaced units and doodads can now be configured to adjust the height map. In SC2, units on low ground cannot fire at all on units standing on high ground unless they have sight of the high ground. Sight is gained by sending one of your ground units to the high ground or sending a nearby flying unit to spot for your units.
There are several incorrect comments saying that in SC1 AIs have already been able to beat professionals – right now they are nowhere near that level. This alone makes it a much harder problem than go. Not to mention that the game itself is more complex, in the sense that go, despite being a very hard game for humans to master, is composed of a few very simple and well defined rules.
Starcraft is much more open-ended, has many more rules, and as a result its much harder to build a representation of game state that is conducive to effective deep learning. I do think that eventually we will get an AI that can beat humans, but it will be a non-trivial problem to solve, and it may take some time to get there. I think a big component is not really machine learning but more related to how to represent state at any given time, which will necessarily involve a lot of human-tweaking of distilling down what really are the important things that influence winning.
I agreed with everything you said until here. Developing good representations of state is precisely what today’s machine learning is so good at. This is the key contribution of deep learning. You seem to be supposing that a human expert is going to be carefully designing a set of variables to track, and in doing so conveying what features of the input to pay attention to and what can be ignored. Presumably the ML can then handle figuring out the optimal action to take in response to those variables.
I think it’s much more likely to be the other way around. ML is really good at taking high dimensional input with lots of noise and figuring out to map that to meaningful to it, if not to us high-level variables.
